Problem

When the Command Line Shell (Manage -> Software -> Firmware Update) is exectued to update the BIOS or Firmware on the system it is unable to locate the required files.

Error Message

These are examples of the error messages received - depends on which component which is being updated:

Following path is specified location for latest firmware software in the configuration file:
Path '/inst/firmware/HDD/ConstellationES3_Megalodon_A006_SAS.LOD' not found.

Following path is specified location for latest firmware software in the configuration file:
Path '/inst/firmware/RBOD/esm039F.esm' not found.

Following path is specified location for latest firmware software in the configuration file:
Path '/inst/firmware/RBOD/RC_08251100_e10_825_5501.dlp' not found.

Following path is specified location for latest firmware software in the configuration file:
Path '/inst/firmware/BIOS/flashupdt.cfg' not found.

Cause

The BIOS, HDD, and RBOD tar.gz files have not been extracted into the expected directories, BIOS, HDD, RBOD and therefore cannot be found by the installer.

<hostname>:/inst/firmware # ll
total 65820
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 27424389 Sep 13 07:34 BIOS_5330.tar.gz
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  1536000 Sep 13 07:34 HDD_5330.tar.gz
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 38430720 Sep 13 07:34 RBOD_5330.tar.gz

Solution

To resolve this issue access the elevated maintenance shell (by overriding SDCS security) and do the following:

# cd /inst/firmware

For each .tar.gz file (replace <filename> in the following command) run:

# tar -xf <filename>

For the BIOS on a 5240 system you need to also do the following to correctly name the directory:

# mv S2600WT_SFUP_BIOS01010024VERITAS_ME030103043_BMC015111142_AUTOFRUSDR117_EWS-VERITAS8 BIOS

You will then be able to successfully update the BIOS and Firmware on the appliance from the Command Line Shell.
