NetBackup Windows upgrade to 8.x failing due to pre-upgrade checks incorrectly failing, stating Web user or Group not found

Problem

A NetBackup 8.x upgrade requires a pre-upgrade check to complete, before starting the upgrade/installation.  On a Windows master upgrade (non-cluster) the pre-upgrade check tool called ' nbcheck.exe ' is deployed into the ' C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\ ' location, when the upgrade/installation is started.  The ' nbcheck.exe ' tool will fail if there are invalid details being passed from the NetBackup configurations, which prevents the pre-upgrade check from completing successfully.

Error Message

A user [nbwebsvc] in group [nbwebgrp] does not exist on the Master Server

CustomAction Deferred_NBCheck returned actual error code 1603

Cause

The NetBackup pre-upgrade tool uses the details contained in the NetBackup configurations to ascertain the Web User and Group details held by the operating system.  In this scenario the Windows master was not within a domain, but the configurations had the value ' WEBSVC_DOMAIN = <master_server_hostname> ' defined.

Solution

If the Windows master being upgraded is NOT part of a domain and is non-clustered, there should be no need to define the valued " WEBSVC_DOMAIN  ".  If the pre-upgrade check (nbcheck) is failing stating the Web User and Group could not be located, please remove the entry ' WEBSVC_DOMAIN ' using the ' bpsetconfig ' command;

Note:  Before removing the WEBSVC_DOMAIN entry, please check the Web User is configured in the Computer Management 'Local Users and Groups', the Web User password never expires, and it's a member of the Web Group.

echo WEBSVC_DOMAIN = | <installPath>\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\bpsetconfig
