Problem

A RDX device can report an out of free space alert when an error occurred in the initial setup. Any backup jobs targeting the RDX device will stay in queued status.

The initial setup error can be caused when the RDX media is write protected. Any other device I/O errors in the initial use of the RDX device also can cause the same symptom, even if the 'configure disk storage' job has not failed.

After the error is resolved and the cartridge device is created again, the above symptom is not resolved.

Solution

A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version of the product mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Articles to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

Workaround

1. Run the Backup Exec Backup to Disk Test Tool (B2Dtest.exe) to confirm the RDX device and cartridge are writable
2. Shutdown the Backup Exec (BE) server
3. Remove (disconnect) the RDX device from the BE server
4. Startup BE server
5. Remove the RDX device from Storage tab in BE Admin Console
6. Shutdown the BE server
7. Connect RDX device again
8. Startup BE server
9. Configure RDX device in Storage tab
Make sure of the Configure Disk Storage job completes successfully and no I/O errors are logged in the system and application event log.
