How to backup workstations in a non-domain or workgroup environment using the Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO)
Error Message
Failed to connect to Media server, please enter valid user name and password
Solution
Note: DLO is designed to be implemented in a domain environment, Following suggestions provide a workaround for workstation's backup which are part of workgroup environment. Such configurations are not officially recommended by the Veritas.
DLO requires domain accounts. Every Desktop Agent user must log in to DLO using a domain account. If there are users who log in using local accounts, they can still use DLO, but they must have the proper domain credentials to authenticate with DLO.
Storage Locations must be in a Windows Domain or Active Directory. Computers running the Desktop Agent can be outside of a Windows Domain or Active Directory, but they must authenticate with the domain or directory to access the media server or Storage Locations. A prompt to provide domain credentials will occur when the Desktop Agent is launched.
The following needs to be checked for computers in a non-domain or workgroup environment:

The following needs to be checked for computers in a non-domain or workgroup environment:
- A valid domain user account should be created in Active Directory for a workgroup/non-domain user backup.
- File and Printer Sharing must be enabled on both media server and workstation.
- The user should be able to access the NUDF (Network User Data Folder) from his workstation and should have full control on NUDF.
- When DLO Agent is launched on a workgroup/non-domain machine on a domain network (LAN) for the first time a credential prompt is displayed, please enter valid Domain user credentials.
- Same valid domain credentials should be provided on BOI log in prompt when DLO Agent is launched in BOI (WAN) mode.
- If DLO Agent is launched directly in BOI mode on a workgroup/non-domain machine directly, two separate credential prompts are display. Please use same valid domain credentials for both credentials prompt.
- The DLO agent should be able to listen on TCP Ports 135-139, 445, and 1434. Also additional ports mentioned in following articles should also be accessible:
