Problem

How do I enable client logging for Lotus Notes?

Solution

It is possible to enable Enterprise Vault Client logging within Lotus Notes which writes to a Lotus Notes database called Veritas Enterprise Vault Client Log (evlog.nsf). This database is created within the Lotus notes data folder on the client workstation and is based on the Notes Log database template.

To enable client logging perform the following:

1) On the client workstation open the notes.ini file in notepad.
2) Add the following line to the end of the notes.ini file:
   $EVClientLoggingLevel=1

Note:
=0 (off)
=1 (on)

3) Save the notes.ini file and restart the Lotus Notes client.

By default the EVLog database is kept in  between sessions in the user's mail database and logging information will build up in the Miscellaneous Events View.
It is possible to overwrite the EVLog.nsf database every time the user opens their mail database.

To overwrite the EVLog.nsf each time the user opens up their mail database perform the following:

1) On the client workstation open the notes.ini file in notepad.
2) Add the following line to the end of the notes.ini file:
   $OverwriteExistingEVClientLog=1

Note:
=0 (off)
=1 (on)

3) Save the notes.ini file and restart the Lotus Notes client.
