Problem

A bptm process crash can occur when using Accelerator enabled backups with Windows clients whose file systems contain hard linked files.

This issue has only been observed with Data Domain and Sepaton storage targets.

This issue affects NetBackup Accelerator on clients running versions 7.5 GA through 7.5.0.6.

Error Message

The Job Details will include this error:
child process killed by signal(27)

On the media server, the Windows Application event viewer will show:
Application Error E1000
Faulting application name: bptm.exe, version: 7.500.513.209, time stamp: 0x511716ba
Faulting module name: bptm.exe, version: 7.500.513.209, time stamp: 0x511716ba
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Cause

The problem occurs in the way hard linked files are handled between bpbkar, bptm and the appropriate OpenStorage plugin where a null field was passed, causing the bptm exception.

Solution

The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 3258959) is included in the following release:
  • NetBackup 7.5 Maintenance Release 7 (7.5.0.7)
NetBackup 7.5.0.7 is generally available.
