Description

When performing a backup on a Windows system where an Event Log is being redirected to a volume with little free space, the backup of the Event Log can fail, but the overall backup job will still finish "successfully," with a status code 0 reported.

The error is noted in the bpbkar log - here is an example where a Security Event Log has failed to be backed up:

13:26:01.555 [2876.3128] <16> dos_backup::OVBackupEventLog: ERR - unable to backup event log:<F:\logs\Security.evtx> (WIN32 112: Unknown error)

...but does not result in a report of a failed backup.

This issue affects all versions of NetBackup prior to 7.7.2.

Action Required

The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 3856818) is included in the following release:
  • NetBackup 7.7 Release Update 2 (7.7.2)
NetBackup 7.7.2 is now available.  Download and README information can be found by accessing the Related Article.

In resolved versions of NetBackup, a correct status code of 1 ( the requested operation was partially successful) is returned for backup jobs where this issue is encountered.

Workaround:
Move Event Logs to a volume with more available free space to prevent this error from occurring.
