Performing a differential backup on a Windows ReFS (Resilient File System) can result in data loss.

Data Loss


Under a specific set of circumstances, it is possible that a differential backup performed on an ReFS file system may not recognize that any files have changed, resulting in an empty backup.

What is Affected: This issue affects all currently supported versions of NetBackup, including NetBackup 8.0.

How to determine if Affected: This issue may be experienced when ALL of the following conditions are met:
  • The following attributes are enabled on the Policy:
    • Backup selections include ReFS (Resilient File System) path(s)
    • Use Change Journal
    • Multistreaming
    • Accelerator
  • Messages similar to the following (including a path to a snapshot link) may appear in the File List of the Job Details for affected policies:
    BACKUP E:\testdata1\ USING \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskDmVolumes\DataDG1\SnapV593EFDD402E7\testdata1\ OPTIONS:ALT_PATH_PREFIX=C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\temp\_vrts_frzn_img_7728_1,​FITYPE=MIRROR,MNTPOINT=E:\,​FSTYPE=ReFS
