Problem

Media Server Deduplication Pool (MSDP) spoold daemon does not start after re-installing NetBackup and restoring the catalog

Error Message

Do not see spad and spoold daemon when running the following:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin//bpps -x
/usr/openv/pdde/pdcr/bin/crcontrol --dsstat 1
Error: 2:
BadValue : (none)
File     : /etc/pdregistry.cfg
Section  : Symantec/PureDisk/ContentRouter
Entry    : ConfigFilePath
Reason   : Empty or missing configuration directive, file not found or access denied.

Cause

From the crcontrol --dsstat 1 output above it was seen that the link to the / etc/pdregistry.cfg file was missing.  The file should be linked to <msdp storage>/etc/pdregistry.cfg.

Solution

Run the comand below to create a link from  /etc/pdregistry.cfg to /msdp/etc/pdregistry.cfg:
ln -s  /msdp/etc/pdregistry.cfg  /etc/pdregistry.cfg
