NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer

Description

The NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer is a tool that determines whether an appliance is ready for an upgrade.

After downloading the tool onto the appliance and running it, several parameters are checked to determine if any issues must be resolved before an upgrade can be performed. After all issues have been addressed, the tool should be run again to verify that the appliance is ready for an upgrade.

The following describes key points about the analyzer tool:
  • The tool can be used only on appliances with software versions 2.6.1 and later. The tool is not compatible with appliances that use software versions 2.6.0.4 and earlier.
  • Once downloaded, the tool must be run from the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu. Although the tool appears in the list of downloaded packages in the NetBackup Appliance Web Console, an error message appears if you try to use it from that interface.
  • The tool only performs an analysis of the current appliance configuration and cannot be used to upgrade the appliance.

To download and run the NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer tool
1. Open an SSH session and log in to the appliance as an Administrator using the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu.
2.
Open an appliance share by entering the following command:
Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Open

3. Mount or map the appliance share directory as follows:
  • UNIX:
mkdir -p /mount/<appliance-name> mount <appliance-name>:/inst/patch/incoming/mount/<appliance-name>
  • Windows:
\\<appliance-name>\incoming_patches

4. On the right side of this web page, click Download Attachments to locate the following package and copy it to the mounted share:

SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer-<version>.noarch.rpm
Where <version> is the analyzer tool version.

5. Unmap or unmount the share.
6. Close the share by entering the following command:
Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Close

7. To verify that the package resides on the appliance, enter the following command:
Main_Menu > Manage > Software > List Downloaded

8. To run the analyzer tool, enter the following command:
Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Install SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer-<version>.noarch.rpm
Where <version> is the analyzer tool version.

9. Monitor the progress and wait for the result. If the result is a failure, the appliance is not ready for an upgrade. Address all reported errors and then repeat step 8 to verify that all errors have been resolved.

For complete information about upgrades to software versions 2.7.1 and later, see the NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Guide - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System.
