Problem

DLO is using too many resources on the workstation that has the DLO Agent installed on.

Solution

To resolve this issue implement all or a combination of these settings.

1. Enable User Activity Settings in the Tools -> Options -> Global Settings
This feature will automatic throttle back DLO based on user activity on the PC.  When the user is not using the Mouse or Keyboard DLO will use more resources.

2. Set the Desktop Agent CPU Priority to Low in Tools -> Options -> Global Settings
This will set the CPU priority to the Low setting for all DLO users in the environment.
Note: This option is only available in DLO 7.6 and higher.

3. Configure the PST backup method to use Incremental PST backups under the Profile -> Options
Change the PST backup method from VSS to “ Enable message level incremental backups of Outlook PST files”.  VSS backup requires that a snapshot be made of the entire PST file which uses more system resources.  Incremental backups uses MAPI calls to back up the PST file and after the first back up of the PST file DLO will back up each message that is added to the PST file message by message.

4. Turn off Dedupe backups
Dedupe uses more resources on the client.  While it does save storage space it does require more space on the client and uses more system resources to process the Deduped files.

5. Enable Backup Throttling in the Profile properties.
This setting will reduce the amount of bandwidth the client uses during a backup.
