Problem

Error Message

Netbackup jobs are running very slow (system almost not responsive)

Cause

Even backing up Master server as a Client was very slow. The more the jobs ran, the slower they would go to the extent Netbackup was as though almost not responsive.

 

Solution

Looking at the bpbkar log, it showed that bandwidth throttling was configured on the master server. It was configured for WAN clients (at this Customer site/case) for the hosts/Netbackup clients for the range of 10.2.1.2 to 10.2.1.254. The Master Server itself had an IP address of 10.1.1.56 and still the job ran as Master as a Client was also being throttled. Both had subnet mask of 255.255.0.0.

The issue was resolved by removing the bandwidth throttle configuration altogether from the Master server configuration.

 

Note: the bpbrm debug log on the media server will also show if LIMIT_BANDWIDTH or THROTTLE_BANDWIDTH is being used.
