Problem

As of Enterprise Vault 11.0.0, Search Policies can be created to specify search functionality to end users. An example would be to create a search policy to allow certain users to delete items via EV Search. An issue involving linked mailboxes prevents end users from using search policies other than the Default Search Policy.

In the example above, linked mailbox targets that are listed in the Pilot Group Search Policy search policy will not adhere to the features settings specified. Instead the linked mailbox targets will adhere to the features policy settings specified in the  Default Search Policy. See figure 1.

Additional behavior seen might be linked mailbox end users that have been configured to use the new EV Search with an EV 10.0.x Add-in in Outlook are defaulting to the legacy search (Search.ASP).

This behavior is seen under the following conditions:
1. The Enterprise Vault site has been upgraded from 10.0.x - 11.0.x
2. The Upgrade Search button has not been pressed at the site level (properties). (figure 2)

Note: Once the Upgrade Search button has been pressed it upgrades the Enterprise Vault site removing the option to use legacy search/archive explorer functionality, forcing the use of the new EV Search.
Note: Launching a web browser directly and navigating to EV Search will result in the new EV Search being displayed as expected.

Error Message

No error message is displayed

Cause

This issue occurs if the active directory account associated to the linked mailbox has not been added to a search provisioning group.

Solution

Ensure that a search provisioning group has been created for the active directory account associated to the link mailbox.

An example would be the following:

User A has a mailbox called userA@exch.company.com
User A logs into the domain userA@AD.company.com -- (AD\User A)

In this example a search provisioning group for domain 'AD' would be created and User A would be added as a target to that search provisioning group.
