Problem

"Error 0xE0008213: Library error - destination location is full" is reported while performing an inventory or any tape operation on a Tape Library

Error Message

Final error: 0xe0008213 - Library error - destination location is full.

When running an inventory on a Tape Library, the job may hang in Running state for a prolonged period of time and the SGMon log (see the Related Documents section for more information on SGMon utility) displays the following error repeating at the same time interval:

ERROR = 0xA0008213 (E_CHG_DESTINATION_ELEMENT_FULL)

Cause

The error indicates that Backup Exec is attempting to place media into a magazine slot, mail slot, or drive where media already exists. This issue could also occur if the media is stuck in the drive\slot\portal.

Solution

Physically inspect the tape library and make sure that the library is not filled the way where all the slots are full and all the tape drives are full. Additionally, verify that a tape is not stuck in the library.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Physically eject the tape from the tape drive.
2. Run the inventory of the library or the desired slot.
