Problem

How to enable Debugging to troubleshoot Enterprise Vault (EV) backup\restore issues

Solution

Debug Steps:
Set Debug on the Backup Exec (BE) server and each server that is part of the EV setup: 
 
Open Debug Monitor on each server. For more details on Debug Monitor see -
  1. On the BE server:
    1. Open the Debug monitor by clicking the Backup Exec button, select Technical Support , and then select Collect debug output
    2. Click the Capture dropdown and select the Enterprise Vault icon per Fig. 1 below

    1. Click the Edit tab, then click Clear Log
    2. Go back to the Debug tab and click Start Capturing to begin debugging.
  1. On each remote server that is part of EV:
    1. Open Windows Explorer (or File Explorer), navigate to c:\program files\veritas\backup exec\raws (or c:\program files\veritas\backup exec\raws), locate SGMon.exe and double click it to start.
    2. Click the Capture dropdown and select the Enterprise Vault icon per Fig. 1 above.
    3. Click the Edit tab, then click Clear Log
    4. Go back to the Debug tab and click Start Capturing to being debugging
    5. Restart the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Service.
  2. Run the job and reproduce the issue. 
    1. Select the smallest job that will reproduce the problem.
    2. Run this while no other jobs are running, if possible.
    3. Wait for the error to occur.
       
  3. Collect and send the logs:
    1. Run the Veritas Quick Assist tool on each server to collect and send logs. More details about this tool can be found in  https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/vqa
    2. Be sure to select full logs for support 
    3. After the Tool has completed the upload of logs from each server to the FTP site, Save and send the Job Log of the job by replying to the Veritas Technician Email or posting it to the case at  https://www.veritas.com/support/
  4. Debugs should be turned off after the issue is resolved and the logs can be deleted. Each step of the debugs mentioned above needs to be undone.   
     
    
Notes about the logs:
The logs are created under -
BE Server - Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\Logs or Program Files\veritas\Backup Exec\Logs
Remote servers - Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\Logs or P rogram Files\veritas\Backup Exec\RAWS\Logs
The following logs append (single log file):
ServerName-SGMon.log
