Problem

Status Code 96 : Error unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available (96) even when tapes show available in scratch pool .

Error Message

Solution

Use the GUI to review the Scratch pool configuration.

  • Make sure the Scratch pool was created correctly, and the box beside Scratch Pool has a check mark.
  • If required, uncheck & check the box again if it was already checked. 
  • Make sure Device Configuration & Storage Unit Configuration is Correct
  • Make sure the Robot Inventory was completed  successfully recently. 

 

Use the command line to review the Scratch pool configuration. 

  • Confirm with available_media script if it shows available media correctly.  
  • Verify the "SCRATCH_POOL" in vm.conf & bp.conf is set correctly.
  • Use the following command that the scratch pool name is showing Correct.
# vmpool -list_scratch
Scratch Pools
=============                ---------------> If its empty, that means its not set correctly.
  • Rerun set command to set scratch pool name.
# vmpool -set_scratch scratch
  • Confirm with following command that the scratch pool name is showing Correct
# vmpool -list_scratch
Scratch Pools
=============
scratch
