Problem
UNIX alternate client restores can fail with status 5 when being initiated from the Windows Backup and Archive (BAR) GUI in NetBackup versions prior to 7.6.1.
Error Message
The bpbrm log (netbackup/logs/bpbrm/) on the media server used for the restore will show the error:
<2> bpbrm write_msg_to_progress_file: Could not link /nfs/app1/file1 -> /usr/app1/file1. Errno = 18: Invalid cross-device link
Cause
Prior to NetBackup 7.6.1, the Windows BAR GUI did not contain the Hard Link and Soft Link options which apply only when you restore UNIX files to a UNIX system.Windows BAR GUI prior to 7.6.1:
Solution
Commencing with NetBackup 7.6.1 (and beyond), the Windows BAR GUI includes the options for hard links and soft links.
Windows BAR GUI 'Restore Options' (in 7.6.1 and later):
Workaround in NetBackup 7.x prior to 7.6.1:
- Use the JAVA BAR GUI to initiate the restore.
- Uncheck 'Rename soft links' and keep the 'Rename hard links' checked.
