Problem

The Enterprise Vault Exchange Mailbox or Journaling Task may report errors that an unsupported Microsoft Outlook version has been detected. The resulting error causes the tasks to go into a failed state.

A DTrace of the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task or Exchange Mailbox Journal Task process can show the following:

{CExchangeVersion::IsExchange2010orAbove} (Entry)
{CExchangeVersion::IsExchange2010orAbove}|Is Exchange 2010 or greater: [True]
{CExchangeVersion::IsExchange2010orAbove} (Exit)
CAgentTask::InitialiseAgentServiceEntry - Outlook version detected :

Cause

Notice in the Dtrace snippet above the line showing Outlook version detected. This indicates that no supported 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook is being reported. When working properly, the appropriate output will be similar to the following:

CAgentTask::InitialiseAgentServiceEntry - Outlook version detected : 12.0.6557.5001 SP2

Note: In most cases, restarting the Enterprise Vault Admin Service allows the services to restart. In some cases, a reboot of the Enterprise Vault Server is required.

 

Solution

Ensure a supported, 32-bit version of Microsoft Outlook is installed and configured on the EV server(s).  For information about supported versions of Microsoft Outlook, see the EV Compatibility Charts here.
