Enterprise Vault™ Migrating from the Legacy SMTP Archiving Solution

Legacy Enterprise Vault SMTP Archiving (Enterprise Vault 11.0.0 and earlier) relied on Microsoft Windows SMTP server and an Enterprise Vault File System Archiving task to archive content received from an SMTP email feed. A completely re-designed SMTP archiving solution was introduced in Enterprise Vault 11.0.1, and further enhanced in subsequent releases. The new feature is managed using the Enterprise Vault Administration Console, and includes the following components:
An SMTP server for receiving emails
An SMTP Archiving task
SMTP policies
PowerShell cmdlets for configuring and managing the feature using the command line

This document provides instructions on how to migrate from the legacy solution to the new Enterprise Vault SMTP Journaling feature, which is the most general type of archiving in the new SMTP Archiving solution. For clarity, the following terms are used throughout the instructions:
"Legacy solution" refers to SMTP Archiving in Enterprise Vault 11.0.0 and earlier.
"SMTP Archiving" and "SMTP Journaling" refer to SMTP Archiving in Enterprise Vault 11.0.1 and later.
Note the following points before starting the migration process:
From Enterprise Vault 12.3, the archive types that you can use for SMTP Journaling and SMTP Group Journaling are SMTP, Shared, Exchange Journal, or Domino Journal archives. If you used a different archive type in your legacy solution, for example, file system archives, then you cannot continue to use the legacy archives in the new solution.
The instructions in this document assume that you are upgrading the computers that host the legacy solution. Ensure that the port used by Microsoft Windows SMTP server is different from the port used by the SMTP server that is included in SMTP Archiving. By default, the SMTP server in the SMTP Archiving feature uses port 25.
Ensure that the File System Archiving task archived and completed processing all SMTP email files in the legacy solution holding folder.
