Configuring a non-administrator account on an EMC Isilon file server

Information Map requires a user account on the EMC Isilon filer to perform automatic discovery of CIFS shares. Information Map can use a non-administrator account for this purpose and the account can be a local Isilon OneFS account or a domain account.

To configure a domain user for discovery of CIFS shares

  1. Log on to the Isilon cluster CLI using SSH or Telnet as an Isilon administrator.
  2. Run the following commands:
    • To create a role named, for example, IMAgentRole:

isi auth roles create --name <IMAgentRole> --description "Read-only role for <role_name>"

    • To give the user, the privileges to log on to the REST API platform framework, to get a list of CIFS shares:

      isi auth roles modify <IMAgentRole> --add-user=username@domain --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_SMB --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_LOGIN_PAPI --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_AUTH

    • To add the user to the Backup Operators group on Isilon, which enables Information Map to scan all the CIFS shares:

isi auth groups modify "Backup Operators" --add-user username@domain

To configure a local user for discovery of CIFS shares

  1. Log on to the Isilon cluster CLI using SSH or Telnet as an Isilon administrator.
  2. Run the following commands:
    • To create a new local user called, for example, testuser:

isi auth users create testuser --enabled yes --password xxxxxx

    • To create a role named IMAgentRole:

isi auth roles create --name <IMAgentRole> --description "Read-only role for <role_name>"

    • To grant the user, the privileges to log on to the REST API platform framework, to get a list of CIFS shares:

      isi auth roles modify IMAentRole --add-user=testuser --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_SMB --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_LOGIN_PAPI --add-priv-ro=ISI_PRIV_AUTH
