Problem

System Recovery (VSR) 21 or later installation may fail or the machine may enter Recovery mode after installation under the environment where Windows update is not run.

This issue may happen under the following conditions.

1. Silent installation (fresh-installation or upgrade)

2. Agent deployment from VSR console

3. Push-installation from Management solution

Cause

Without all Windows updates/Security update on the Windows OS,

Case A: VC++ 2015-2019 install may fail, which is a prerequisite and gets installed as part of VSR installation

Case B: The root certificate authority of the OS would be out of date and which may cause the VSR 21 or later drivers to be recognized as unsigned drivers and the machine would enter Recovery mode after the installation completed and the machine is rebooted.

Solution

System Recovery installer recommends Windows OS to be up-to-date with latest update to install and function properly post installation.

For this issue a new warning pop-up message has been introduced when VSR 21 or later is installed using VSR install media through browser.exe or using patch media. While user tries to install VSR, a warning pop-up message prompts users to keep windows up to date so that the VSR installation would be successful and the machine works fine post VSR install.

Where as in the silent install or upgrade using silent switches, agent deployment from VSR console, and push-install from Management Solution, this warning pop-up message does not appear. So users are advised to run full windows update on Windows OS before VSR 21 or later installation.
