Description
If an NBU based Resiliency Group is created for a Virtual Machine in VRP. User needs to take special care while recovering them from backup software like NBU outside VRP.
Resolution:
Below are the recommendation for the Restore operation.
RG Type : NBU
Restore in Source DC
If restoring on original location (Datastore, ESX) :
- Must retain IDs and name
- Use the “Overwrite VM” option
- If the original VM is unregistered but not deleted from Datastore, the restore operation will create a new folder on the datastore. Delete the old folder before or after the Restore to reclaim space.
If restoring on alternate location :
- Not recommended to retain any ID and name
If restoring on alternate location but still retaining IDs :
- Edit the RG after the restore in order to update the RG’s configuration
Restore in Target DC
- Not recommended to retain original IDs and name
- If retaining original IDs and name, make sure that the VM is not registered in Source DC
