Problem

There might be a case where the user has multiple clusters at the source site and a single cluster at the target site and they are using the standard port group for network mapping/pairing. So, in this case, the user will face two issues here-

1] At the source site, the user will not able to create the LNG using the standard port group from a different cluster as LNG is allowed to create with the standard port group from the same cluster.

2] Even if the user creates separate LNG at the source site for different clusters, he will still not be able to pair that LNG with target site LNG if target site LNG is already paired with another cluster from the source site.

Error Message

The following error would occur if we create LNG by selecting the standard port group from different clusters.

We get this error when he tries to create a network pair for LNG which is already paired with other LNG.

Cause

There are two conditions that cause this issue to happen:

1] User tries to create LNG by selecting the standard port group from different clusters.
2] User tries to create a network pair for LNG which is already paired with other LNG.

Solution

Here is the LNG mapping/pairing technique for the standard port group when the user has multiple source clusters and a single target cluster.

1] Assume you have two clusters at the source site as the 'Source-Cluster-1' and 'Source-Cluster-2' and at target site 'Target-Cluster1'

2] At source site create 'Source-LNG1' using the standard port group of 'Source-Cluster-1' and target site create 'Target-LNG1' using the standard port group of 'Target-Cluster-1'

3] You can create now network pair between this 'Source-LNG1' and 'Target-LNG1'

4] At the source site create 'Source-LNG2' using the standard port group of 'Source-Cluster-2' (Need to create separate LNG as explained you can not create LNG by selecting the standard port group from different clusters.)

5] At the target site first create a new standard port group on the same vSwitch which is used for creating 'Target-LNG1' (If you are planning to use different vSwitch for 'Source-Cluster-2' at target site then you can create a new standard port group on the new vSwitch of 'Target-Cluster-2')

6] Once the new standard port group ready at the target site then create 'Target-LNG2' using it.

7] Now you can create a network pair between this 'Source-LNG2' and 'Target-LNG2'
