Description

A backup of a Win2012 R2 Virtual Machine completes with status 0, but will not boot upon restore.

This situation occurs if the following conditions are met:

  • NetBackup 8.1.2 is installed on the master server and the VMWare backup host (media server)
  • Using VMWare policy configured with Exclude Swap and Paging Files Optimization enabled
  • Backing up Windows guests on an ESX or VCenter server
  • Windows guests have dynamic boot disk

Veritas Technologies LLC has acknowledged the above-mentioned issue is present in NetBackup version 8.1.2. Veritas is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  

Action Required

The issue is resolved in the following version: NetBackup 8.2

There is a NBU 8.1.2 EEB HotFix available.  Download and install this hotfix on the NetBackup 8.1.2 VMWare Backup Host (media server): UPD476514

If the NetBackup version installed is 8.1.1, then contact NetBackup Technical Support to obtain and install the Emergency Engineering Binary associated with Etrack 3977479

If the NetBackup version installed is 8.1, then contact NetBackup Technical Support to obtain and install the Emergency Engineering Binary associated with Etrack 4008385

If the NetBackup version installed is 8.0, then contact NetBackup Technical Support to obtain and install the Emergency Engineering Binary associated with Etrack 4008392

Note:  The phrase "media server" in this document also refers to master servers that function as media servers.
