Problem

NetBackup 7.7 - 7.7.2 restores of a vApp or vApp template in vCenter Director 8.0 fail.

Error Message

For failures to restore network configuration and vApp metadata information, the restore job shows Status 0 or 1 in the NetBackup Activity Monitor. Additionally, the following messages or a subset there of may appear In the NetBackup Activity Monitor Job Details dialog box Detailed Status pane:
"NetBackup VMware policy restore error (2820)"
"Error parsing results for NetworkConnectionSection"
"Failed to add vApp Network"
"Failed to add vApp Network card"

For failures to delete the existing vApp during a restore of a vApp or vApp template, the restore job will show a 1 in the NetBackup Activity Monitor. Additionally, the following message may appear in the bpVMutil log file on the restore host:
"vAppExists: Could not delete vApp"

Cause

During a restore of a vApp or vApp template into vCloud Director 8.0, NetBackup 7.7, 7.7.1, and 7.7.2 may fail to detect that a vApp was deleted successfully during the restore.

During restores into vCloud Director 8.0, NetBackup 7.7, 7.7.1, and 7.7.2 fails to completely restore vApp and vApp VM configuration settings.

Solution

These issues are fixed beginning in the NetBackup 7.7.3 release.  To restore into vCloud 8.0, upgrade to NetBackup 7.7.3 (or later) when it is available.

For restores using NetBackup 7.7, 7.7.1, and 7.7.2, Veritas recommends that you restore to vSphere, then import the VM into vCloud:
  1. In the Backup, Archive, and Restore interface, on the Recovery Destinations dialog box, select Alternate location in vSphere, then restore the VM.
  2. In vCloud, go to your Organization > My Cloud > vApps and then choose the “Import from vSphere” icon in the tool bar.
The following table describes the settings that are restored when restoring into vCloud and when restoring into vSphere and then importing into vCloud:
Restored into vCloud Restored into vSphere and then imported into vCloud
vApp Lease settings No No
vApp Startup settings No No
vApp Network config settings No No
VM Virtual Hardware settings No Yes (imports settings from vSphere)
VM Operating System Settings No No
VM Network Connection Settings No No
VM Guest Customization Settings No No
VM Metadata settings No No

When you add credentials for vCloud Director 8.0 to NetBackup 7.7, 7.7.1, and 7.7.2, you must enter the API name of the vCloud Director 8.0 host. For instructions, see the following article:
