ProblemThe Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) drops connection or freezes intermittently and after reboot of the NetBackup 52x0 appliance. The IPMI connection may drop during use or not function following a reboot of the appliance. Note when this happens the IPMI port LED is lit (assuming a hot network connection). Replacing the network cable or changing the network switch port does not help.
Additionally if this happens during an appliance reimage the reimage will hang at the following screen:
CauseThe appliance BIOS > Server Management > BMC LAN Configuration > ‘Baseboard LAN Configuration’ was configured with the same IP, Subnet Mask and Gateway IP as the ‘Intel ® RMM4 LAN Configuration’ as seen in figure 2 below. This is incorrect. The IPMI connection information should solely reside in the ‘Intel ® RMM4 LAN Configuration’. The ‘Baseboard LAN Configuration’ must remain unconfigured.
Figure 2 (misconfigured BMC LAN Configuration):
1. Start or reboot the appliance. When the following Veritas splash screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup menu. You may need to press F2 multiple times to ensure that the BIOS menu dialog box appears.2. In the appliance BIOS > Server Management > BMC LAN Configuration:
a. Ensure that ‘Baseboard LAN Configuration’ is unconfigured (enter all zeroes IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway IP).
b. Add the desired IP address, subnet mask and gateway IP address in relevant fileds in only the ‘Intel ® RMM4 LAN Configuration’ section. See figure 3 for an example:
3. Press <F10> to save your configuration and exit the BIOS. In the Confirmation message , select Yes.The appliance is automatically restarted.
