Shared archives with a folder structure cannot be browsed using Enterprise Vault Search

A user has access to a Shared archive that contains a folder structure. When browsing the archive using EV Search, receives an error when clicking on the expansion arrow to the left of the archive.

Error Message

The following popup error appears in the user's browser:

Error loading archives/folders. Please try the operation after some time or contact your Enterprise Vault administrator for more details.


This problem is caused by a defect in the way the EV Search application handles Shared archives that contain a folder structure.

Note: Shared archives created in the Vault Administration Console are created as unstructured archives (i.e. they have no folder structure) and are unaffected by this problem. However, Shared archives can be created with a folder structure by using the Enterprise Vault Content Management API; it is these archives that are affected by this problem.

Workaround for earlier versions of EV 11.0.1:

1. Download the file from this article.
2. On the Enterprise Vault server, navigate to the folder:
<EV Installation Directory>\EVSearch\EVSearchClient\Plugins\Shared
3. Back up the original Shared.plugin.xml file and replace it with the one from the file.
4. Recycle the EVOnlineWebSearch application pool.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for each Enterprise Vault server.

Note: Only apply this workaround to an Enterprise Vault 11.0.1 installation. It will not work on prior versions.
