Alternate directory restore throws exception for the NetBackup Add-in for Microsoft SCVMM Console

Problem

NetBackup 7.7 introduces an Add-in for the Microsoft SCVMM (System Center Virtual Machine Manager) console. The NetBackup Add-in supports restore of a VM (virtual machine) to its original location or to an alternate location. The Add-in supports the System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager. As a rule, this support includes all Microsoft SCVMM rollups . If your SCVMM version is rollup 5 or later however, the Add-in cannot restore the VM to an alternate location on the target Hyper-V server.  When you click Browse to specify the restore location on the Add-in's Restore Options screen, the following message appears:

Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

Solution

Veritas has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue (Etrack 3809414) is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Veritas is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  This issue was scheduled to be addressed in the following release:

  • NetBackup 7.7 Release Update 1 (7.7.1)

Workaround:
The NetBackup administrator can restore the VM to an alternate location by means of the NetBackup Backup, Archive, and Restore interface.

If restoring to an alternate location using the NetBackup Backup, Archive, and Restore interface is not feasible, please contact Veritas technical support, referencing this document and Etrack 3811020 to obtain an Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB) bundle containing a fix for this issue for NetBackup 7.7.
