Problem

The SharePoint library is not being fully processed due to the error being returned during the archiving process.

Error Message

The following errors may be seen in the SharePoint Archiving task report file.

When the latest version of the document contains an invalid character this error will be returned on the path, however it will not point to the file that contains the character:

*** Error *** There is an error in XML document (1, 63550).. '', hexadecimal value 0x0B, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 63550. Error listing files in the folder

When the previous version of the document contains an invalid character this error will be returned on the file name.

*** Error *** There is an error in XML document (1, 1202).. '', hexadecimal value 0x0B, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 1202. Error listing versions of the file

Cause

This issue is being caused by an invalid character, typically a vertical tab, which is created using the Shift + Enter keys.    This character is not visible in most text editors, but can be seen when attempting to edit the value in SharePoint.  Two example problem characters can be seen below.
