Problem

What is DFS?

The Distributed File System (DFS) technologies offer wide area network (WAN)-friendly replication as well as simplified, highly available access to geographically dispersed files. The general model is that there is a Host or Namespace node where the original data resides. The data is replicated to the replication node.

How to check for Host/Replication node?

-Windows services

-Check system for DFS writers in cmd line: vssadmin list providers

-In the backup selection list, check under the Shadow Copy Components for DFS.

-The DFS management console.

Solution

How to backup DFS?

-Backup the data from the HOST node only.

-Selections reside under the Shadow Copy Components.
