Additional information on third-party software and the NetBackup Deduplication PDLinux Operating System

Solution

The Veritas PureDisk software, the Deduplication Appliance Software, and the NetBackup Appliance software use third-party components as part of the software's architecture.  As an administrator, you should not upgrade third-party components to a newer version; doing so may affect your ability to obtain support from Veritas.  Veritas monitors the releases of these third-party components.  Veritas also provides upgrades and patches to address vulnerability, performance, and stability problems that can affect the software.

The Linux operating system is part of the Veritas PureDisk software, the Deduplication Appliance Software, and the NetBackup Appliance Software and depending on the version is either based on the standard Red Hat or SUSE Linux operating system.  Veritas removed some packages from the Linux installation and added some packages to make Linux more suitable for these products.  A complete list of Linux packages contained in these products, as well as the source code for such packages, is available from Veritas upon request.

Do not install additional third-party software on Veritas appliance platforms or on PureDisk storage pool nodes.  Any such installation is an unsupported activity. Such installations can cause service interruptions and problems with product stability.
