When IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is enabled, NetBackup daemons will not start after upgrading to 7.0.1.

Symptoms will vary, as various NetBackup processes/daemons (such as vnetd and bpcd) will not stay up.

This affects all supported Unix and Windows platforms.

Error Message

bpcd and/or vnetd logging may show messages as below.

Remove/Disable the IPv6 protocol.




Totally disable use of IPv6 on the NBU server-
To disable IPv6 components, follow these steps:
1.        Click Start
Collapse this imageExpand this imagetype regedit in the RUN box, and then click OK.
2.        In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
3.        Double-click DisabledComponents to modify the DisabledComponents entry.

Note If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
a.        In the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
b.        Type DisabledComponents, and then press ENTER.
c.        Double-click DisabledComponents.
4.        Type any one of the following values to configure the IPv6 protocol, and then click OK:
 .         Type 0 to enable all IPv6 components.

Note The value "0" is the default setting.
  Type 0xffffffff to disable all IPv6 components, except the IPv6 loopback interface.
This value also configures Windows to use Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) instead of IPv6 in
prefix policies.
Then reboot the NBU server for that change to take affect.
