Description

The NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer is a tool that determines whether an appliance is ready for an upgrade.

When you run this tool on an appliance, it checks several parameters and identifies the issues that can prevent a successful upgrade. This tool also removes any unnecessary or old packages and logs, and expands specific partitions to the necessary size as needed. If the analysis fails, you must address all reported issues and run the tool again for verification. When the analysis result shows The upgrade readiness analysis passed, the appliance is ready for an upgrade .

The following describes key points about the analyzer tool:
  • The tool can be used only on appliances with software versions 2.7.1 and later. The tool is not compatible with software versions 2.6.x and earlier.
  • You must run this tool from the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu. Other appliance interfaces do not support the use of this tool.
  • The tool only performs an analysis of the current appliance configuration and cannot be used to upgrade the appliance.

To download and run the NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer tool

  1. Open an SSH session or the IPMI console, and log in to the appliance as an Administrator using the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu.
  2. Open an NFS or a CIFS share by entering the following command on the appliance:

    Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Open

  3. Mount or map the appliance share directory on another computer as follows:

    UNIX:
    mkdir -p /mount/<appliance-name> mount <appliance-name>:/inst/patch/incoming/mount/<appliance-name>

    Windows:
    \\<appliance-name>\incoming_patches

  4. In the Downloads section at the bottom of this page, locate the following package and copy it to the mounted share of the computer:

    SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer-<version>.noarch.rpm
Where <version> is the analyzer tool version.

  5. Unmap or unmount the share on the computer.
  6. Close the share on the appliance by entering the following command:

    Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Share Close

  7. To verify that the package resides on the appliance, enter the following command:

    Main_Menu > Manage > Software > List Downloaded

  8. To run the analyzer tool, enter the following command on the appliance:

    Main_Menu > Manage > Software > Install SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer-<version>.noarch.rpm

Where <version> is the analyzer tool version.

  9. Monitor the progress and proceed as follows based on the result.

If the analysis failed, the appliance is not ready for an upgrade. Address all reported errors and repeat step 8 to verify that all errors have been resolved.

Note: If any Unique Message Identification(UMI) error codes appear on the screen or in the log file,  go to the Veritas Support  Website and enter those codes for information about possible solutions. The error codes appear as follows: V-409-777-xxx2.

If the analysis passed, the appliance is ready for an upgrade.

The following screen capture shows an example of the analysis output.
Note: The checked items that appear may vary on different hardware models with different software versions.
