Hi,
in my enviroment i've two StorageTek SL500 Tape Library but doesn't works because i've an very old firmware.

You will never get a "INCOMPATIBLE MEDIUM INSTALLED" go away with a firmware update.
Using incompatible label will also provoke this error - the StorageTek robot does verify if the cartridge will fit in the tape drive. And for a good reason - STK did have support for a long list of tape drives. Just imagine putting a STK9840 tape into a LTO drive - I can hear the broken plastic already :)
Can you please post a picture of the bar code label.

I did a look in the Netbackup HCL
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/library/BUSINESS/xCL/TECH76495/nbu_7x_hcl.html#tape_libraries-tape_libraries_-_vendor_compatibility-storagetek
I did not see a requirement for a minimum firmware level. Any reason believing its a firmware issue.
Else I would recommend contacting Oracle for the latest version of the firmware. According to the manual the firmware could be public available, but seems its changed since Oracle took over SUN.

Whit my actualy firmware and version of vmWare SL 500 doesn't work.......where the issue????

We have no idea why it is not working because you have not given ANY sort of information.
What exactly is 'not working'?
Does the OS see the devices?
Can you run 'scan' command (under ...\veritas\volmgr\bin) and show us the output?

@Marianne, this is the command output

So, the OS and NBU sees 2 SL500 robots.
One robot has 4 x LTO2 tape drives and the 2nd robot has 4 x LTO4 tape drives.
Other than way too many tape drives attached to a single server, what exactly is wrong?
What is 'not working'?
What steps have you followed to add the devices and and use them in NBU?
01-19-2015 02:34 AM
The library is correctly added in NBU enviroment but the only operation can i do is put a tape in cap.
01-19-2015 02:51 AM
Are there barcoded tapes in the robots?
(LTO2 media with LTO2 labels in robot with LTO2 drives and LTO4 media with LTO4 labels in robot with LTO4 drives).
Have you Inventoried the robot(s)?
(You can select 'Empty Media Access Port...' before you select Start.)
In which Pool are the tapes after Inventory?
Have you added Storage Units for each robot?
Have you selected these STUs in Backup Policies?
And which Volume Pool was selected?
What happens if you kick off a Backup Policy?
If you are getting an error, what is the error code/message?
Please show us NBU config:
Device config:
...\veritas\volmgr\bin\tpconfig -l
STU config:
...\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpstulist -U
Backup policy config for one of your policies:
...\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bppllist <policy-name> -U
01-20-2015 12:46 AM
Did you use the storage wizard in the Netbackup GUI to add the robot ?
Else I would recommed removing the drives and robot and re-add using the wizard.
01-20-2015 12:47 AM
Marianne, can you post the correct configuration????
I've leave (sorry but i can't find correct word) all library and now i will configure on my enviroment so teach me correct procedure please, if is possible.
01-20-2015 01:21 AM
I have posted the steps that you need to complete in the list of questions above:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/storagetek-sl500#comment-10813661
If you are new to NBU and do not understand step-by-step configuration, starting with devices, then media, then creating policies, we can unfortunately not cover all of this in a single forum discussion.
Either start by reading NBU manuals such as Getting Started Guide, Device Configuration Guide, NetBackup Admin Guide I, etc (All NBU documentation can be downloaded here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6488 )
or ask your management to book you on 5-day NBU clasroom training
or go through free online training (See 'Training' link at the bottom of this page)
or else as your Symantec reseller to assist with configuration.
PS:
Seems you are not new to NBU and you have had these 2 libraries in your environment for a while...?
I found this post: SL 500 Tape Library
Trying to figure out what exactly the issue is right now???
What is NOT working? Or what errors you are seeing?
01-20-2015 02:57 AM
I've configured, whit wizard, only 1 tape. Now i do some test
01-20-2015 03:16 AM
Curious to see what exactly is configured.
Please show us output of these commands:
Device config:
...\veritas\volmgr\bin\tpconfig -l
Available media:
...\veritas\netbackup\bin\goodies\available_media
STU config:
...\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bpstulist -U
Backup policy config for one of your policies:
...\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\bppllist <policy-name> -U
01-20-2015 07:14 AM
Well,
after test this the situation:
1) Work's only 3 on 4 tape drive (the tape don't working have different firmware)
2) After runned inventory had found 76 tape but only 17 works fine (for the other says can mount tape)
I try to make new label for the unmontable tape.
At the end i'll try to mount second library and do same test.
@Marianne
when i launch the command i'll post here result.
Thanks folk's

NBU 7.x HCL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76495 says the following about firmware for tape libraries and tape drives:
2. Firmware versions are no longer listed in this section. Symantec recommends using the most recent version of firmware available when you configure the library with NetBackup.
When a minimum firmware version is required, it will be listed in the Notes column. If a firmware version is causing a problem, Symantec will work with the hardware vendor to resolve the problem. Symantec and most hardware vendors listed are members of TSANet.
You can get latest firmware and tape drivers from IBM web site for your LTO2's and LTO4's.
(Are you aware that LTO2 is EOL?)
About tape labels - we have pointed out that STK robots need specific labels for tapes in your other post:
SL 500 Tape Library
Not sure why you are still having issues almost a year later?
01-21-2015 12:32 AM
Sorry no - the firmware in the tape drives has a library specific version. You need to get the firmware from Oracle.
01-21-2015 12:36 AM
"unmontable tape."
To me this sound like incompatible media more than incompatible firmware. The fact that the robot does mount tape indicate the robot is working.
As Marianne has pointed out - those unreadable tapes. Do they have STK compatible bar code label ?
Can you take a picture and show us ?

Pay attention, tape from LT2002 to LT2020 works fine
@Nicolai
i've found a code on drives, and drives work (library whit LTO2) have this code 53Y2. The other drives have different code and doesn't work

The tapes that are working fine are in FileServer pool.
Lots of tapes in NetBackup pool.
Did you move these tapes to NetBackup pool because they are 'not working'?
Or are they 'not working' because you don't have any backup policies for STUs attached to robot 0 with NetBackup Pool selected?
And you have for some reason configured a Scratch pool but not using it at all?
Looking at available_media output, it seems as if LTO4 drives and media in robot 1 is not used at all.
Why would you be using the robot with EOL LTO2 tape drives and not the currently supported LTO4 devices?
Apologies, but I am still battling to figure out what exactly the issue is here...
