Critical Illness Insurance

What Do I Need to Know to Enroll?

Decide if you'd like to participate in the Critical Illness insurance and at what coverage level.

Enter your choice through Metlife during your benefits enrollment event.

Designed as a complement to medical and disability income coverage, Critical Illness Insurance through MetLife pays a lump-sum benefit if you experience one of the covered conditions.

This optional benefit is employee paid and the cost will automatically be deducted from your paycheck.

You are eligible to participate in Critical Illness Insurance if you are actively working at least 20 hours per week at Veritas.

If both you and your spouse/domestic partner work for Veritas, you may each have up to one Critical Illness Insurance policy. This means that one of you may elect Critical Illness Insurance for both of you, or you may each elect to cover only yourself. Additionally, only one of you may elect Child Critical Illness insurance for the same child/children.

Enrollment

If you would like to elect coverage as a new hire or during Open Enrollment, visit the MetLife website. Follow the login instructions and select the Critical Illness option on the welcome page. If you experience any issues, contact MetLife at 1 800 GET-MET 8 (1-800-438-6388) or cii@metlife.com.

Plan Details

If you experience one of the covered conditions within any category you will receive a lump-sum benefit payment to use as you see fit, provided you meet all the group policy and certificate requirements. This payment can be used on anything from co-pays and deductibles to mortgage payments and child care. You may receive more than one payment, depending on your covered conditions. View an example.

Insured Coverage Options
Employee Category Benefit Amount of $10,000
Spouse/Domestic Partner $10,000 as long as the employee applied for coverage
Dependent Children $10,000 per dependent child as long as the employee applied for coverage.

Critical Illness Example


The example below illustrates an employee who elected an Initial Benefit of $10,000 and has a Total Benefit of 3 times the Initial Benefit Amount or $30,000.
