Maternity Leave

Maternity leave is the time you take off from work prior to and after the birth of your child. You will likely use a combination of short-term disability (STD), and Veritas Paid Parental Leave during your maternity leave.

Short-term disability is designed to provide you with income during the time that you're unable to do your job due to childbirth, or an illness, or injury. Generally it is common for 8-10 weeks of leave to be covered under Veritas' disability policy for pregnancy. This timeframe may be longer if you have a complicated pregnancy and if you have medical certification for additional time off.

After the disability period ends, Veritas' Paid Parental Leave provides salary continuation for up to eight weeks to employees to bond with a child within 12 months of the date of the birth, adoption, or placement of the child. If you are eligible to receive any other form of income while on a Veritas Paid Parental Leave, for example, California Paid Family Leave, this leave will supplement that amount so you are receiving 100% of your regular salary while you are out. This will be coordinated with any other leaves you are eligible for through Liberty Mutual.

Pay on Maternity Leave
Maternity leave is generally comprised of two parts: the medical leave that is covered under our disability policies and any additional time you take after your disability period ends.

The disability policy provisions remain the same.

Review the State Specific Leave Benefits page to see if you qualify for additional income replacement, such as the Paid Family Leave for employees in California.

Adding a Newborn to Your Benefits
Record a Status Change to your benefit elections within 60 days of the birth of your child. After the 60 day window has passed, you will not be able to add your child to your benefits until Open Enrollment or you have a qualified status change that allows this election change. The effective date of the status change is the date your baby is born.
