Cause

The Agent for Windows Servers on the Backup Exec server (RAWS) is misidentifying the resource type and instead of connecting to the VCenter server to back up the VM resources, they're identified as Lotus Domino which is incorrect and no longer supported.

The source of the issue is seen in a debug log from the Backup Exec server during backup:

Backup Exec SGMON Debug Utility (bengine)

BENGINE:   | ---Resource VMVCB::\\vcsa.dom.com\VCGuestVm\(DC)MAIN_Datacenter(DC)\vm\Servers\VM01 | VM01 (p-00000208F54F7DC0, tp-41, subtp-6, osid-37, osver-0, bsd-flags = 0xc) ---

Note that osid-37 shows up where 37 is the id for Lotus Domino Resource and it should be 76 which is for VMWare resources.

Solution

Workaround

Instead of selecting virtual machine resources beneath VCenter, the ESXi host(s) may be added to the Backup and Restore view within Backup Exec and the VMs selected for backup under the ESXi host.
