Cause

This error may be caused by a low or no disk space condition on the drive hosting the Backup Exec (BEDB) Database or by the (BEDB) Database being at the maximum size allowed by the Microsoft SQL instance.  This causes multiple issues such as:

  • BEServer service failing to start
  • Job hung in a "Ready; no idle devices available" status
  • BE Console fails to open
  • Errors when editing selection lists

Solution

1. Free up some drive space.
2. Optimize the size of the database.
3. Remove older job history and alert entries
4. Cnfigure Backup Exec to automatically purge the old data on a regular basis.  C onfiguration and Settings | Backup Exec Settings | Database Maintenance and Security options

Note: Customers experiencing this issue are encouraged to contact Veritas Technical Support if the Backup Exec BEDB database is 10GB or greater
New Alerts and Database tasks in Backup Exec provide warnings when the database is approaching the SQL limitation.
