Which ports of NetBackup 5220 and 5230 appliances should be configured in target mode

Problem

When NetBackup 5220 and 5230 appliances are configured as Fibre Transport Media Servers, certain ports should be configured in target mode to receive data from SAN clients.

Error Message

Status 83 if wrong ports are configured in target mode.

Cause

If wrong ports are configured in target mode, backups to Fibre Transport Media Servers will fail with status 83.

Solution

Please see the attached document for a summary of which ports on the 5220 and 5230 appliances should be configured in target mode.

The following CLISH command on the appliance shows which ports are configured in target mode and which are in initiator mode:

Manage>FibreChannel (displayed as Manage>FC)

Manage>FC>show

Please also note that it is required to create separate zones for each set of SAN client and target port on the appliance which is to be used with the SAN client.
