Problem
Solution
On the Source Computer carry out the below:
1) Copy the Offline Vault/Vault Cache Files from the following location to a location available to the Target Computer
Windows XP - %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Local Settings\Application Data\KVS\Enterprise Vault\%Unique Identifier%
Windows 7 - %SystemDrive%\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\KVS\Enterprise Vault\%Unique Identifier%
2) Export the registry key and all sub keys from the path below
HKCU\Software\Enterprise Vault\KVS
On the Target computer carry out the below:
1) Get the computer running with Outlook installed and working - If Vault Cache starts to automatically synchronize with the Enterprise Vault Server, simply exit Outlook for the moment.
2) Copy the folder taken from the Source computer to one of the below paths dependant on the Operating System on the Target computer
Windows XP - %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Local Settings\Application Data\KVS\Enterprise Vault\
Windows 7 - %SystemDrive%\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\KVS\Enterprise Vault\
3) Import the Registry Keys that you exported earlier from the Source computer
(Note: If you are moving Offline Vault/Vault Cache from Windows XP to Windows 7 you will need to correct the OVRootDirectory in the registry to point to the new location of the Offline Vault Folder that you copied in step 2 on the Target computer e.g. change it from %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Local Settings\Application Data\KVS\Enterprise Vault\ to %SystemDrive%\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\KVS\Enterprise Vault\)
4) Install the EV Outlook Add-In if not already installed
5) Open Outlook again (may need to close and open Outlook twice), Vault Cache will now be setup and will only need to synchronize the latest changes since the start of the move process
Note: This procedure may not work in all circumstances, in the event that the above procedure does not work then a reset of Offline Vault should be performed on the new computer and a normal Synchronization and Download must be completed.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
