Problem

GENERAL ERROR: TIR Backups run as full backups. NetBackup_file_info.is missing. Backing up everything in 'Drive letter:'

Error Message

12:38:52.105 AM: [668.3660] <2> tar_base::V_vTarMsgW: WRN - old TIR info file 'C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\tir_info\U\NetBackup_file_info.file_servers_early' is missing. Backing up everything in 'U:'

Solution

Overview:
TIR Backups run as full backups.  NetBackup_file_info.<policy> is missing. Backing up everything in 'Drive letter:'


Troubleshooting:
When a full backup occurs correctly the following file is created:
 
<install_path>\NetBackup\tir_info\<driveletter>\<directory>\netbackup_file_info.<policyname>
 

When an incremental occurs another file gets created (note the word "new"):
 
<install_path>\NetBackup\tir_info\<driveletter>\<directory>\netbackup_file_info.new.<policyname>.processnumber
 

At the end of the backup this file is renamed to:
 
<install_path>\NetBackup\tir_info\<driveletter>\<directory>\netbackup_file_info.<policyname>
 

Tir_info files are created on the client.


Resolution:
If a folder has the word "new"in the file name and backups are running as fulls instead of incrementals, it may be necessary to rename this file then run a full for the policy in question to get backups running as expected.
