Problem

References to nonexistent or decommissioned media servers remain in NetBackup.

Error Message

Output from nbemmcmd -listhosts reveals that these servers in question are still included in the database:

nbemmcmd -listhosts
NBEMMCMD, Version: 8.1.2
The following hosts were found:
media
<nonexistent_server_hostname>
...
Command completed successfully.

Cause

After removing storage units, bp.conf and vm.conf entries, entries for servers may still linger in NetBackup and can be seen in the NetBackup Administration Console. For example, in the device hosts list or in the storage wizard, if the server has not been also removed from the EMM (Enterprise Media Manager) database.

Solution

Use the following command to remove a server from the EMM database:

nbemmcmd -deletehost -machinename <hostname> -machinetype media

Refresh, or restart, any NetBackup Administration Consoles/Java GUIs which are open so that changes may be reflected.

Note: The nbemmcmd can be found in the following path:

  • On Linux: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin
  • On Windows: install_path\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd

For more information on the use of this command, refer to the Commands Guide.
