Problem

Following a successful restore to different hardware (Restore Anyware), Windows 2012 Server (Domain Controller) fails to boot due to 'inaccessible boot device'.

Error Message

inaccessible boot device

Solution

Workaround:

Please note that the following workaround is specific to restoring to a HP ProLiant DL320e G8 server that has a B120i RAID controller.

  1. Boot off the Veritas Recovery Disk (SRD)
  2. Go to Utilities/Load a Driver (provide hpsa2.inf to load the driver so that disks can be seen prior to starting the restore)
  3. Start the Recover My Computer wizard
  4. De-select the 'Use Restore Anyware to recover to different computer' option
  5. De-select the 'Reboot when finished' option
  6. When restore is complete, go to Analyze/Explore My Computer and make a note of the drive letter that is assigned to the restore system (for example. G:)
  7. Go to command prompt and run the following command: Dism /Image:G: /Add-Driver /Driver:"<driverpath>\hpsa2.inf" (replace c:\<driverpath with the location where you have copied the driver to)
  8. Reboot server

This issue is now fixed in SSR 2013 R2. Details here: https://www.veritas.com/docs/000023696.
