Problem

WRN - Content Indexing Server: unable to pause catalog: Web (some files may not get backed up)

Solution

InetPub\Catalog.wci is a Web index catalog file. It does not need to be backed up, the index is rebuilt by stopping and restarting the Context Index service on the Web server.

The error seen in the "Problems with backups report" or in the bpbkar log is only a warning.

To resolve the "warnings" there are two possible solutions (performed on the client):

1. Create a batch file called bpstart_notify.bat in the <install_path>\netbackup\bin directory. Edit the batch file and set an entry:
net stop cisvc

***This will stop the Index Server service before the backup runs and the catalog will be backed up as a "flat" file***

Create a batch file called bpend_notify.bat in the <install_path>\netbackup\bin directory. Edit the batch file and set an entry:
net start cisvc

***This will start the Index Server service after the backup finishes***

Note: Refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q247093 for the syntax of command lines.

2. Exclude all files with the extension of .wci

***This excludes the catalog files from the backup***

Please refer to the VERITAS NetBackup Systems Administrator's Guide to set up the bpstart_notify and bpend_notify batch files. Also refer to the guide on how to exclude the .wci catalog files.
