Problem

Backup to a NAS fails with Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code page'.

Error Message

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of  (C:\).
Error EC8F03ED: Cannot create the recovery point.
Error E7D10041: Unable to establish a network connection to \\<path>
Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code page'.

 

Cause

The issue is caused by credential issues.

 

Solution

To resolve the aforementioned issue, the following steps can be tried.

1. Try a different username and password.

2. In the job remove the username and password and then try the backup if it allows.

3. Try to map the shared folder as a network drive.  In the job definition wizard at the destination prompt click on browse and browse to the drive letter assigned to the mapped drive.  Now without putting the username and password try to backup.
