This came while dealing with one of the customer's requirement.

If a user has a PST with 9 years worth of emails in it and we only want to import the mail items no older then say 3 or 6 years to reduce the amount of mail INITIALLY imported in the the Vault.

There isnt any solution for this requirement as of now in EV. Yes we can increase the performance of import using few tweaks.

It would be great if the PST importer could understand the "received" Outlook column/attribute so you could choose say "only import mail from this date backwards" similar to the Outlook import/export function.

This will surely be a add on to many of the customers importing large psts.

Thanks for the suggestion. This idea has been logged in the product enhancement database where it can be considered for a future Enterprise Vault release.

Did anything come of this enhancement?.

Just interested as it was my idea that was nicely reworded and repackaged by an Symantec employee.

Another case where this would be handy is when you have an Archive rule, say Archive anything older then one year but you already have users moving current email to PST files. What ends up happening is a user has current email in the mailbox and current email in the Vault. confusing.

If you truly want emails older then one year to only be archived and want to do something like anything younger then one year to going back to the mailbox then there is no elegant way of doing it. (this is excluding the effect of retention periods).

If you could set a date range to import you can import all emalis older then one year from the PST then import the remainder back into the users mailbox without all the juggling.

Im not sure you;ve thought about the "change" implications for some users particularly those who virtually work form an archive PST perstective only. Having some more flexability would be handy.
