Enterprise Vault currently shows what has been done(usage report) but not whats currently going on(pending items to be archived, shortcut processing etc). Yes MSMQ shows it but a user hardly visits it and no one remembers what queue does what.

How about coming up with an "Enterprise Vault Progress Monitor" where we can just map the MSMQ queues and display it on VAC with a proper label so that the user understands whats exactly is going on with his environment and he can plan his maintenance or other related tasks accordingly.

Providing "Enterprise Vault Monitor" would make user feel that EV is alive also for major tasks like bulk shortcut processing, bulk archiving, restore, etc user would get a fair idea about where EV is heading.

Depending on the progress user can plan the maintenance or next heavy duty EV tasks accordingly.

I agree that most of my customers are not able (don't want?) to monitor EV through MSMQ queues... having something mapping MSMQ queues to understandable label and something more friendly than MSMQ console would be a nice feature!

You can use perfmon to monitor ev's activities through the MSMQ and you can set it to create alerts based on certain characteristics

For instance you can monitor a journals failed items through perfmon and have it alert you if a certain threshold of items is met so you can troubleshoot an issue quicker

A dashboard type of thing, built in to the product, would be awesome.

Yes there is a way through perfmon however how about EV having a detailed progress monitor where you can monitor the current status of EV environment in user friendly language.

One more addition to the EV monitor can be done which is the EV reports(Archiving task) in xml format would be very helpful.

Thanks and Regards, Backup Exec, BESR, Enterprise Vault

This is a great thread, please keep adding what you'd like to see and why...

Monitoring of EV is high on our agenda, first of all to get the basics right so sorting daily checks, then moving onto real-time actions such as number of items archived per second (to track throughput) and synthetic user actions to give early warning of user access issues.

First off in EV 10.0.2 a new Exchange Archiving Report has been added. Administrator will be able to see what has (and has not) been archived by Exchange mailbox archiving and why.
