Bypass media server for backup-to-disk jobs
As best I can tell, and according to Symantec tech support, all backup jobs go through the media server. My suggestion is to re-architect at least backup-to-disk jobs to only be monitored and managed from the media server, but to have the actual data stream between the backup source and the target storage device be direct between the two of them. The BE agent running on the source should be managing that exchange while sending updates to the media server. The media server tracks the job and is able to send control messages to the agent on the source, but is otherwise out of the middle of the job and is therefore not a bottleneck.
What do you think?
