Netbackup Policy Creation naming convention

MarcNetbackupEn

Hello,

Just looking for advice on different ways to name newly created policies and curious if anyone has a format that has worked well for them.

Policies for Vmware, Exchange, SQL, File Servers, App Servers etc.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Marc

we do like that:

-Location (we have several sites, and site codes we use sited code as policy name start)

-Server (dba, exchange, fileserver, AD. etc..)

-tier (like production, critical production, development, test..)

-sometimes OS

we will have like this policy.

For example: location Jakarta, site code will be JKT, server runs SQL, so will pu DB (if it is filesystem backup) SQL (if it is applciation backup) and PROD or CPROD (based on production or crit production). so we will have below policy based on above:

JKT_DB_PROD - it means this policy for Jakarta (STU) and it is DBA server which runs SQL and it is production box.

JKT_UNIX_CPROD -this is unix filesystem backup which are critical production server;

JKT_WIN_TEST -this will be windows test servers

JKT_APP_PROD, JKT_AD_PROD, JKT_FS_PROD

And so on...

Marc,

Sure thing, I put a couple different ones below.  If you have multiple steps in your SLPs for how you protect the data you can either describe the steps with an _ indicating progression between steps or standardize on a few SLPs accross the enviornment and just use a GOLD, SILVER ..... type of description that would be commonly understood within your organization.
