Hi, We have an EV environment and need to archive a file system that resides in a workgroup. Is it possible to archive it? Adding it to an AD is not an option unfortunately. Thanks

like i said, permissions. i suppose you could script a move of all files older than X days to an open share that is in AD and then archive that share with EV.

Not tried this myself but it all boils down to permissions. Can you give the VSA full control of of a share you wish to targe for archiving and also NTFS read permissions for the folder that share maps to? Those are the absolute bare minimum permissions required.

the issue i see here is permissions on the archived data. if users need to access it then i dont recommend even trying. how much data are we talking about?

Thanks Andrew,

Well, 10 TB of data are being generated monthly: It´s all about moving recorded voice conversations to any cloud service so we were trying to archive to local disk and then migrate to Amazon or rackspace.

I already tried to add a file server outside AD in our lab but once the file server is added as a target, EV does not allow to add volumes to it due to insufficient permissions.  We tried creating a local account wuth local admin permissions and same name and password as the VSA in the file server but it seems this is not enough. I guess EV won´t be an option here unless any other idea comes up.

Thanks Ed,

I tried by creating a local account on the FS with same name and password as the VSA but it seems EV needs the VSA to have direct explicit permissions on the file server in order to add volumes and this is not possible if the server is not in the domain where the VSA resides or a trusted domain at least.

Perhaps it´s time to give up :-(.
